Butch Marion, until now an employee of a Walmart supermarket in Maryland (United States), has managed to stop working thanks to the campaign launched by a user of the Chinese social network TikTok.
This 82-year-old ex-marine was still active and working hard days of up to 10 hours, because he could not afford to retire due to financial problems.
But his life will be different from now on.
As can be seen in the images that accompany this news, a user of the social network was in charge of recording the daily life of the old man, whose working day exceeded nine hours, and published the video on TikTok, where it was seen by more of three million users of the digital platform.
The same author of the video launched a fundraising campaign on the GoFundme platform, where in just a few weeks, and thanks to the viralization of the video on the TikTok social network, he has managed to raise more than $100,000 so that Marion could stop working.
"I can't thank you enough," said the emotional old man after receiving the help, according to numerous media outlets in the United States, where the story has become very popular.
Local and national media have also reported that Marion has expressed her desire to devote herself now to traveling and spending more time with her children.
The now retired man lived almost destitute, despite the fact that he has been working since he was 11 years old and belonged to the Navy for a decade.
Marion is the third elderly person who manages to retire from working in a supermarket in the United States thanks to a collection organized through the Internet.
