Today, an afforestation campaign began at the site of Beit Fares in Ballouran, in Qastal Maaf district, in the northern countryside of Lattakia, as part of the afforestation campaigns under the slogan “Let's plant.. for a green future” on the occasion of the Tree Festival.
The Director of Agriculture in Lattakia, Engineer Bassem Doba, indicated in a statement to SANA reporter that the campaign is being carried out with the participation of large numbers of citizens and popular activities to reforest the lands that were exposed to fires in 2020, stressing the continuation of work to restore green spaces and vegetation in the region.
Doba added: The afforestation campaign continues until the end of next March, and includes the cultivation of 1,000 hectares of scorched lands for reconstruction, pointing out that several afforestation campaigns have been carried out, including family afforestation, which includes the distribution of five free plants for each family and the cultivation of areas in municipalities and home gardens in coordination with city councils. and municipalities.
In turn, Engineer Jaber Sokoor, head of the forestry department in the directorate, explained that today 2,000 environmentally friendly forest plants, such as pine nuts, carob and laurels, were planted on an area of 3 hectares.
For her part, Daad Issa Aji, head of the Ethar Charity Association in Lattakia, indicated that the association's participation in the campaign carries a message of the importance of teaching children and youth the value of trees and preserving them.
Eng. Haitham Ismail, Secretary of the Arab Socialist Baath Party branch, Major General Abdo Karam, the provincial police chief, Eng. Tayseer Habib, head of the provincial council, Eng. Firas al-Sousi, deputy governor of Lattakia, participated in the afforestation campaign, and cadres from the Revolutionary Youth Organization and a number of civil societies and the local community.
