Criticism of Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) accumulated for a long time, now it should have been.
On Friday evening it was announced that Lambrecht will most likely resign from office in the coming week.
But the opposition in the Bundestag can't move fast enough.
Johann Wadephul, Vice President of the Union faction
, calls for clarity to be created quickly.
He told the editorial network Germany (RND) that a resignation was overdue.
“The chancellor has held on to her for too long and must now quickly dispel the uncertainty.
The soldiers in particular can expect that.« Fast
means this weekend.
“The Bundestag is in session next week and talks are taking place in Ramstein about further military aid to Ukraine.
Germany can't compete with a defense minister on call," said the CDU politician.
And the
Union's defense policy spokesman, Florian Hahn
, said via Twitter that Lambrecht was taking the right step.
It's good that she recognized that.
“In the end, the glitches were too many and Ms. Lambrecht's skills too little.
A suitable successor must now be found quickly,” Hahn writes.
When making a new appointment, Chancellor Olaf Scholz should “not go according to internal SPD functionary logic, but exclusively according to suitability.”
Deputy
FDP party leader Wolfgang Kubicki
raised the option of a major cabinet reshuffle.
A possible replacement of the defense ministry is the responsibility of the social democratic coalition partner, he told the newspapers of the Funke media group.
“It would be good this time if someone with the necessary background knowledge led this immensely important ministry,” said Kubicki.
He could not assess whether Chancellor Scholz was considering a major cabinet reshuffle.
"However, he must also have realized that many a social-democratic department does not present the very best image in the eyes of the public."
Since Lambrecht's series of breakdowns, there has been speculation in the SPD about her possible successor.
The difficulty: Actually, the chancellor has decided to fill the cabinet equally, which narrows the circle of people who are eligible.
A woman would therefore have to follow Lambrecht.
The military commissioner Eva Högl and Lambrecht's parliamentary state secretary Siemtje Möller were mentioned as possible candidates.
So far, spokesmen for the federal government and the SPD have not commented on the reports about Lambrecht's expected resignation.
