The area cultivated with wheat so far has reached 1,189,678 hectares, of which 547,765 hectares are irrigated and 641,913 hectares are rainfed, while the area cultivated with barley has so far reached 1,146,826 hectares in various governorates.
The Director of Plant Production at the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Ahmed Haidar, stated in a statement to SANA that the amount of seeds distributed so far has reached 51,249 tons of wheat and 1,862 tons of barley, pointing out that 5,979 hectares have been cultivated with medicinal and aromatic crops, including 611 hectares of cumin, 426 hectares of anise and anise. 364 hectares of black seed, 4520 hectares of coriander and 58 hectares of various crops such as fennel, thyme, fenugreek, mint, Damascene rose and others.
Haidar stated that the areas cultivated with food legume crops amounted to 86,096 hectares, of which 66,615 hectares are lentils, 5,278 hectares are chickpeas, 12,925 hectares are beans, and 1,278 hectares are peas.
Haidar called on wheat farmers to receive the second batch of nitrogen fertilizers from agricultural banks, and to review the nearest guidance unit to receive poisonous baits to combat the field mouse in case they noticed its presence in their fields.
