After the police asked them to leave the immediate area at the lignite mining site in Lützerath, many demonstrators started to return.

The situation calmed down early on Saturday evening when it got dark, a dpa reporter reported.

So it rained heavily again and again.

Erkelenz - The other people who initially stayed in the area were pushed back by a wide police chain on the field, as a dpa reporter reported.

There was shouting, but initially no clashes.

Lützerath has been cordoned off by the police for days.

The buildings of the small settlement on the territory of the city of Erkelenz are currently being demolished to enable the energy company RWE to excavate the coal underneath.

On the other hand, many thousands of people protested in the neighboring district of Keyenberg on Saturday.
