The popular pastor Martina Hirschsteiner died at the age of only 52.

The dismay is great in many parishes.

Ottobrunn/Haar – The parishes of St. John in Haidhausen, the Friedenskirche in Dachau, the Jesuskirche in Haar and the Michaelskirche in Ottobrunn, Neubiberg and Hohenbrunn reacted with great dismay to the death of Pastor Martina Hirschsteiner.

In the last few years she has worked in all the communities with a great deal of commitment and diligence.

She died at the age of 52 and leaves behind three children.

Martina Hirschsteiner studied theology in Tübingen and Munich and was a research assistant at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.

As a vicar she came to St. Johannes in Munich-Haidhausen.

When she first started, she said that she experienced music in particular as a deepening of her faith.

"Singing in the cantatas, tuning in and tuning to the fine harmony in the liturgy in the service and in shaping community life connected my head and my heart."

Stop and try new ways

In doing so, the clergyman trusted that what she does and creates is based on faith: “In response to what the Creator promised me and put in our ears and hearts.” In Ottobrunn, the congregation very quickly took her to heart .

She spent seven years here until 2021 and, among other things, also wrote columns on public holidays for the Münchner Merkur.

One of them for the Day of Repentance and Prayer on November 19, 2014. It's the small steps forward that make life, Martina Hirschsteiner wrote in it.

Of course, there can be detours and reversals.

But the inner voice should lead back to the right path in the end.

She quoted an African proverb: “Many small people in many small places, taking many small steps, can change the face of the world.

“ The right perspective for Martina Hirschsteiner.

It remains to be seen where the goal lies.

"Sometimes you just have to stop, think and then try new ways."

Before she returned to her last station in Haidhausen, the church community in Ottobrunn, Neubiberg and Hohhenbrunn thanked her.

She quickly made contacts and relationships with many people and had an open ear for those she spoke to.

She gave them a sense of closeness and acceptance and made a name for herself as a minister who brings encouragement and comfort to many in difficult situations.

Popular pastor deceased: "Your words moved me enormously."

Jochen Imhoff from Riemerling, who has been involved in the Michaelskirche for decades, got to know her as an extraordinarily committed, incredibly hard-working pastor with great personal charisma and credibility.

"She was particularly involved in the work with the elderly and had a lot of contact with the subject of death, funerals and funeral ceremonies." Jochen Imhoff saw her at the funeral of a fellow choir member who died of cancer.

"Your words have moved me enormously." The proclamation of joy and confidence is very important to her, but also the shaping of the future in terrible moments such as a serious illness.

She radiated this confidence like no other and not only raised her voice in the pulpit, but also contributed it to the choir.

In Ottobrunn they were now considering whether a small funeral service could also take place.

But it was concluded that two funeral services in different churches would not be appropriate.

The funeral service for Martina Hirschsteiner will take place this Friday at 2 p.m. in the Church of St. John on Preysingplatz in Munich-Haidhausen.
