Weather expert explains "fat snow front"

Snow is announced.
The weather conditions are changing drastically in Germany.
Cold air is coming.
It's snowing down to the lowlands.
Munich – Bad weather with rain and stormy gusts are announced this week.
According to the German Weather Service (DWD), "a warm front wave will spread to us in the strong western current from the North Sea" that night.
In southwest Germany, 50 to 100 liters of rain per square meter can fall.
The risk of flooding increases.
It's still way too warm for this time of year.
But temperatures are plummeting on Sunday (January 15) and that means snow.

"We'll probably get a north-westerly current next week.
It's getting colder and the snow line is falling," says qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung, managing director of the weather service

"At least in middle and higher altitudes in Germany it can finally be white."
Depending on the weather model, snow and cold will return to Germany.
Massive cold air flows in over the North Sea.
Snow then falls above 400 to 500 meters.
According to the weather expert, heavy snow showers are also possible down to low altitudes.

The DWD also announced that the snow line on the edge of the Alps was already falling to 800 meters on Sunday.
It will fall further to 400 meters by Tuesday.
According to the European weather model ECWMF, a snow front is forecast for Tuesday in the west of the country.
Meteorologist Jung calls this current forecast "fat snow bringer".
50 centimeters of snow in the Black Forest and in the Eifel as well as on the Hunsrück could come together up to 25 centimeters according to the model calculations.

However, the weather expert emphasizes that this should be treated with caution.
"Europeans like to exaggerate the amount of snow," explains Jung.
The model assumes that the snow will stay put.
But the ground is still very warm and the first snow is melting away.

It remains to be seen whether the weather forecast will hold up - as is well known, things can change quickly when it comes to snow.
And there's still some time until next week.
How long does the winter interlude last?
“Currently, however, the weather models only indicate a short winter phase.
On the back side of the snowfalls it could quickly get warmer again.
So it remains very exciting,” explains weather expert Jung.
