All efforts to save the situation have so far been in vain: since the district sports hall in Tegernsee has been used as emergency accommodation for refugees, school sports at the high school have fallen behind.

Tegernsee

– Basically, it would be possible for the high school students to switch to the sports halls of the Realschule in Finsterwald and the middle school in Rottach-Egern – but there are no buses for that.

Tegernsee school principal Werner Oberholzner is increasingly frustrated by the situation: "It's very depressing for all of us."

Parents and physical education teachers regularly approach the headmaster to find out how physical education is going.

Oberholzner does not have a satisfactory answer: there are not enough buses to transport the students to other halls on Tegernsee.

"We would need a total of eleven trips per school week," Oberholzner makes clear.

Despite all the efforts of the school and the district office, it is currently impossible to get them.

"It's incredibly annoying," the director admits.

District Office Miesbach admits: "The situation is very unsatisfactory"

The Miesbach district office also concedes on request: "The situation is very unsatisfactory for everyone." The school administration is really committed to being able to offer a solution for school sports as soon as possible, says authority spokeswoman Sophie Stadler.

So far, however, all attempts have failed.

Homework room provisionally converted for sports

So only the emergency solutions remain on site.

The high school is allowed to use the municipal single hall for a large part and also switch to the Tegernsee Medius for part of the sports lessons, reports Oberholzner.

"That's better than nothing." The schoolwork room on the first floor had also been provisionally redesigned so that a little physical education was possible there.

"We're trying to make the best of the situation," assures the director, who nevertheless has great understanding for the dissatisfaction of the parents and his sports teachers.

Not enough offers for the future sports high school graduates

The situation is particularly problematic for those high school students who soon want to do their Abitur in physical education.

In the space available, the high school is far from being able to offer the range of sports that it should, says Oberholzner.

"Do badminton in medius - that's just not possible." In the worst case, as Oberholzner makes clear, special regulations are needed for the school-leaving exams for this year.

In view of the continuing influx of refugees, the headmaster does not believe that the district sports hall will be available again for physical education classes in the foreseeable future.

"I've already written off this school year."

There are currently 50 people in the hall - more are expected

Stadler reports that 50 people are currently being accommodated in the Tegernseer Halle.

The next assignment has already been announced for the beginning of next week – again a bus with 50 refugees.

A total of around 200 people can be temporarily accommodated in the district sports hall.
