President López Obrador expressed his support for the presence of the National Guard in the Metro on Friday, and pointed out that this decision by the federal government and local authorities is for the purpose of guaranteeing "the safety of people."

The announcement surprised many users of the Mexico City Metro, since it is the first time that the National Guard has been used to carry out security tasks in that transport network in 54 years of operations, despite the fact that this public security instance of civil character was created in 2019 by the current government with the aim of combating organized crime.
