An opinion poll conducted by the Hungarian government showed that 97 percent of the Hungarian people voted in favor of lifting EU sanctions against Russia.
“The results of the national poll showed that 97 percent of Hungarians reject the EU sanctions imposed on Russia and support their abolition, as they harm Hungary,” TASS news agency quoted Hungarian government spokeswoman Alexandra Sentkiray as saying on her Facebook page, adding: The review of the EU sanctions policy It has become necessary.
The Hungarian government had previously conducted a national survey over a period of two months, which ended on December 15, in which more than a million Hungarian citizens participated, about the sanctions imposed on the supplies of oil, gas, coal and timber, the ban on the supply of Russian fuel to the nuclear power plant in Pakse, as well as the restrictions imposed on Russian tourists and sanctions leading to higher food prices and possible sanctions in the field of nuclear energy.
The Hungarian government indicates that it will use the results of the national survey as a strong argument in negotiations with the EU leadership about the damages of sanctions on Russia, while Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has repeatedly called for a review of the sanctions policy.
