The spokesman for the Public Ministry of Honduras, Yuri Mora, told CNN that a special team has been formed together with the Secretary of Security that is investigating the violent death of two environmentalists identified as Jairo Bonilla and Aly Domínguez. .
Both were killed by several bullet wounds by hitherto unknown subjects.
The events occurred on January 7 in the municipality of Tocoa, Colón department in northern Honduras.
According to Mora, the team is made up of prosecutors and agents from the National Investigation Directorate who are in the area trying to detect evidence and find those responsible for the murder.
The spokesman for the Public Ministry added that, because the relatives of the victims opposed the legal autopsy to find out the causes of their death, a judicial process will be initiated to exhume the two bodies and carry out post-mortem analysis. required mortems.

Reinaldo Domínguez, brother of one of the victims, assured CNN that they opposed the autopsy being carried out because, according to him, it is useless since the investigations are not carried out and the cases go unpunished.

Domínguez assures that his brother and his murdered friend were faithful defenders of the environment and since 2018 they were opposed to mining operations due to ecological damage.
In addition, he says that his brother was killed with four bullet wounds and his friend received three when they were traveling on a motorcycle to collect money from some customers, since they both worked for a company that provides cable television service.
The authorities affirm that for this reason they are investigating and seek to determine who was responsible and the causes of the double murder.
