Return of the cold, wind and snow: what the next few days have in store for us

2023-01-14T18:27:13.073Z

An oceanic disturbance will sweep away the extremely mild temperatures observed during the first half of January. From Sunday

The abnormal mildness of this early winter is over.

From Sunday, the cold, the wind and the snow return to France.

“The country will experience a very disturbed and fresh sequence”, warns Météo France.

Orange level alerts should be put in place.

The reason: a vast low pressure system that will affect Western Europe only.

An active oceanic disturbance will shift "during the day of Sunday towards the South and towards the East" of the country, explains the weather organization.

“The upper flow will then gradually switch to the northwest, favoring the incursion of colder air over a large part of the territory.

This change of atmosphere will sign the return of snow in the mid-mountains.

"In the last precipitation, it will fall from 600 to 700 m from the Vosges to the Alps and the Massif Central, and 1000 to 1100 m in the Pyrenees", specifies Météo France.

Paris will lose 8 degrees in five days

From Sunday, the maximum temperatures will approach seasonal norms.

But the freshness will increase from Tuesday to settle under them.

Between this Saturday and next Thursday, Paris will thus lose 8 degrees.

The thermometer is expected to show a maximum temperature of 4°C on January 19.

In Lille, where it will be 3°C on Thursday, a drop of 9 degrees in five days should be felt.

Toulouse and Bourges will lose 10°C and will keep maximum temperatures above 0°C.

On the other hand, it will be colder in Belfort on Thursday afternoon, with -1°C, a drop of 11 degrees in five days.

“Given the last winters, this is already news in itself, but the challenges at the start of the week will be mainly rain, wind and snow!

notes Meteo France.

Wind is expected “from the night of Sunday to Monday on the Atlantic coasts, and snow at low altitude first in the Northeast on Monday.

At the foot of the Pyrenees, the weather will become permanently very rainy.

Watch out for the wind on Tuesday on the west facade

Tuesday, a depression deepening in the Bay of Biscay could lead to strong winds on the western side of the country, with new precipitation.

“The strong winds will eventually reach the Mediterranean with violent gusts (…) between midday on Tuesday and the following night.

They could exceed the 100 km/h mark on the most exposed coasts with a risk of reaching 130 to 140 km/h on the ends of Corsica”, warns the Weather Channel.

This depression, specifies Météo France, could also "cause snowy returns at low altitude in the center of the country".

Very disturbed during the first half of next week, the weather should calm down afterwards.

The cold could then become drier and more continental, with marked frosts next weekend, indicates Météo-villes.
