The DWD has issued severe weather warnings for parts of the north, south and west.

Rivers could burst their banks again.

Munich/Wiesbaden – Instead of being white and cold, this year's winter has so far shown its mild side.

It has been stormy and wet for the past few days.

The German Weather Service (DWD) issued a severe weather warning in some parts of Germany on Friday and Saturday (13/14 January).

The Harz Mountains were hit by violent hurricane gusts and flooded.

There is also a severe weather warning for Sunday.

Long-lasting rain could cause high water levels in the rivers in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The weather remains unsettled in some parts of Germany.

The current severe weather warning from the DWD primarily affects the Brocken and the Upper Black Forest.

The DWD also issued a severe weather warning for North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday until Sunday morning due to persistent rain.

The areas affected are Ennepe-Ruhr district, Olpe district, Märkischer district, Oberbergischer district, the city of Remscheid and the city of Wuppertal.

In addition to the strong wind, the persistent rain is causing concerns about flooding.

In view of the "saturated soil", the precipitation could cause the water levels of the water bodies in the affected catchment areas such as the Ruhr, Wupper and Sieg to rise again after a temporary relaxation.

This was announced by a spokesman for the State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection (Lanuv).

Weather: Severe weather warnings and continuous rain also on Sunday

Hurricane gusts and continuous rain also accompany Sunday.

Therefore, the DWD warns of storms in the north, from north to south-west, in the higher elevations of the low mountain ranges, in the Alps and on the Fichtelgebirge.

The DWD expects 30 to 40 liters of precipitation per square meter by Sunday morning.

In some places, 50 liters per square meter are also possible within 18 to 24 hours.

The continuous rain then subsides in the course of the morning, in the Black Forest only in the afternoon.

"Tomorrow, Sunday, will be dominated by storm 'Frederic'," said a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach on Saturday.

Due to further rainfall, the highest flood notification level could be reached selectively on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG) said on Saturday that level three was possible at the Marburg and Gießen-Klärwerk levels.

From this level, towns are surrounded by flood water, roads are impassable.

There was also flooding in northern Bavaria on Saturday morning.

On the Upper Main, flood notification levels one and two were exceeded in isolated cases, according to the Bavarian flood intelligence service.

The weather will calm down again next week.

Then winter is just around the corner again.
