The number of Americans who believe in anti-Semitic ideas has doubled since 2019, according to a new study.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) surveyed thousands of Americans and found that 85% believe at least one anti-Semitic claim, compared to 61% in 2019.
A fifth of the respondents believed in six or more anti-Jewish claims about separatism and nepotism among the minority - compared to 11% in 2019.
The league's CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt, said on Thursday that the results of the study are "amazing and are a wake-up call for the entire country." He added that "there is an alarming increase in anti-Semitic views and hatred in every category, at levels not seen in decades."
The survey, which included 4,000 adults and was conducted in the fall of 2022, presented participants with 14 statements and asked them whether they believed them to be somewhat true/mostly true, or somewhat false/mostly false.
The statements focused on anti-Semitic clichés such as "Jews tend to stay united more than other Americans", or "Jews have too much control over Wall Street", or for example that Jews are dishonest and "only care about other Jews".
