The first round of the Czech presidential elections today failed to choose a new president for the country for the next five years, to succeed outgoing President Milos Zeman.
The preliminary results of the elections showed that the retired general, former Czech Chief of Staff and Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Petr Pavel, won the largest number of votes, with 35.39 percent, while former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis came second, with 35 percent of the votes, while the participation rate was 68. 24 percent.
According to the electoral law, a second and decisive round will be held between the eight candidates from the first round on the 27th and 28th of this month, as it is sufficient for the candidate to win to obtain the majority of the votes of the participants, and not the number of those entitled to vote as in the first round.
And the voters voted since yesterday evening to choose a new president for the country to succeed President Zeman, whose term ends next March.
