The General Authority for Forest Management and Development in Hama Governorate has reforested about 85 hectares of land in which trees were subjected to encroachments and fires during the last period.

The Director of Natural Resources at the Authority, Eng. Fayez Muhammad, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the afforestation process included the planting of 40,000 saplings of various forest species in the sites of Jurin, Annab, Ain al-Krum, Maarin al-Saleeb, and Shatha, through the directorate’s workers and the afforestation campaigns organized by the local community, provided that work is done. To increase the planting density in these sites during the coming period.

He pointed out that the Directorate continued to implement its plan to produce about 350,000 seedlings of various forest species, including cypress, pine, berry, raspberry, halabi, laurel, oak, and others. Free of charge for each family, in coordination and cooperation with the councils of administrative units and according to the family card, with the aim of restoring the vegetation cover that has been tampered with, and logging during the past years.

It is noteworthy that the authority set within its plan for the current year the afforestation of 180 hectares of land with forest plantings in light of the damage caused to large areas of forests during the previous seasons as a result of fires, logging and unjust cutting.
