Dietramszell - In its most recent meeting, the Dietramszell municipal council again discussed whether the unused Ascholdinger indoor swimming pool could serve as refugee accommodation.

The majority agreed to propose the property to the district office as a housing option.

More than 50 refugees are assigned to the district every fortnight.

The municipalities are required to report land and apartments to the district.

Mayor Josef Hauser recently discussed with the municipal council which plots of land and buildings are suitable for housing refugees and should be proposed to the district office.

With the first wave of refugees, the Ascholding swimming pool had already been discussed.

But other buildings are also up for debate.

There have already been talks with Dean Thomas Neuberger about the extent to which the parish homes in Dietramszell and Ascholding could be used as refugee accommodation, Hauser reported: "We have already suggested them to the district office as an option".

Feedback on this is still pending.

Alternative proposals from the mayor for potential refugee accommodation

That's why the head of the town hall is still looking for alternatives: "The municipality has checked again which potential plots of land and housing options are available." Two plots of land would be conceivable as a potential solution: one in Baiernrain, behind the old school, belongs to the municipality.

"However, the property falls out of the shortlist," said Hauser.

The reason for this is the poor public transport connection and the fact that there are no local supply options, i.e. shops and medical practices.

In addition, the construction of refugee accommodation could have an impact on a nearby inn, because here the guests used the shared parking lot.

The old football field in Linden is just as unsuitable, as it cannot be used due to the new building of the Schützenhaus.

Dietramszeller Kloster is not an option as refugee accommodation

Hauser keeps hearing that the Dietramszell monastery would be a good property.

“The Free State of Bavaria has the right of use in one part of the monastery and as long as the order exists, this part is actually only used for the retreat.” In the other part, the sisters’ premises are rented to the kindergarten and the Montessori school.

In no case does Hauser see the gymnasium of the elementary and middle school as suitable for accommodation.

There is only access to the gym through the school.

"That's not feasible with hundreds of students." Windows and roof are no longer airtight and in the spring the renovation of the D building will also begin.

Thomas Bachmaier (CSU) pleaded: "We can't wait until the cup passes and we have to take action and show the flag." Bachmaier and his family would also like support if he imagined he had to flee to another country .

Old kindergarten in Ascholding was rejected - swimming pool in Ascholding is proposed

Next came the old kindergarten in Ascholding.

Hauser explained that some construction work was necessary for sensible use and that, among other things, there was no heating.

During the discussion about the use of the unused indoor pool in Ascholding, the municipal councils then came to an agreement.

With a vote of 17:2, they decided to propose the property to the district office as refugee accommodation and to have it checked to see whether it would be suitable for this purpose at all.

However, the mayor has concerns.

The swimming pool needs to be remodeled.

He also doubts that the building is habitable due to the large area of glazing.

"In winter, a lot of heat is lost through the glass facades and in summer the building heats up considerably," emphasized Hauser.

The necessary change of use is accompanied by static problems, and there is also the issue of fire protection.

Ludwig Gröbmaier (CSU) then objected: "The kindergarten is probably easier to prepare than the indoor pool" after his proposal to offer the old kindergarten in Ascholding as a property was rejected.

Hubert Kanzler (FW) thought the community should sit back and wait and expressed concerns about the cost.

Hauser made it clear: "The costs for a conversion and the inspection will be borne by the district."

It remains to be seen how the district office decides and what the review reveals.
