In the ZDF series "Yesterday we were still children", the striking building was presented to an audience of millions this week as a film high school.
In reality, however, there is no school at the shooting location on Lake Starnberg.
Höhenried
– "Friedhelm Moll Gymnasium" is written on the school whose façade can be seen again and again in the ZDF thriller "Yesterday we were still children".
The multi-faceted drama about the Klettmann family, in which a mother of three is stabbed to death by her husband on her 44th birthday, attracted millions of viewers to the screens on three evenings.
The final was on Wednesday (January 11).
However, the high school from the film is not really a school at all: The building is the Höhenried Castle on the grounds of the clinic of the same name near Bernried.
In real life, rooms for weddings and conferences can be rented in the stately building.
Höhenried Castle won the race from over 35 possible locations
"In search of an outstanding building as a film location for our school, we looked at more than 35 castles and buildings up to a distance of 100 kilometers from Munich," said the "Seven Dogs film production company" responsible for the thriller on request.
"Höhenried was only shortlisted at a very late point in time, but was then immediately our favourite."
This was the case both because of the optics and because of the logistical possibilities.

Part of the suspenseful drama (screenplay and producer: Natalie Scharf) was filmed on the shore of Lake Starnberg.
The spectators were now able to experience how Julia Beautx (daughter Vivian Klettmann) and Vico Magno (son Daniel Klettmann) are out and about in Höhenried in school uniforms as pupils of the "Friedhelm Moll Gymnasium".
“It was an excellent location for us”
Looking back, the production company is enthusiastic about the location: “The castle has proven itself as a location.
It was an excellent location for us.
The cooperation with the provider of the motif (landlord, editor’s note) was very good.” The film shoot in Höhenried took place from August 30th to September 2nd, 2021.
"Fortunately, we had extremely good summer weather during the shooting, so the team was able to enjoy the surroundings after work," says the company.
The Buchheim Museum is also on the site
Even though Höhenried Palace looks older, it was built by Wilhelmina Busch-Woods in the 1930s.
In 1955, it and the extensive grounds went to the Landesversicherungsanstalt Oberbayern, the forerunner of the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bayern Süd.
In 1967, the newly built Höhenried Clinic was opened on the site where the Buchheim Museum is located today.
who wants to know
how the castle can be seen in the thriller series can be accessed as seven episodes in the "ZDFmediathek".
