A plane with more than 70 passengers crashed today (Sunday) in central Nepal, and at least 40 bodies were recovered from it.
Authorities said that so far at least 40 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of the Nepalese Yeti Airlines plane.
A spokesman for the airline said that there were two babies, four crew members and ten foreign nationals on the plane.
The cause of the accident is not yet known.
Local media showed thick smoke rising from the crash site while rescue teams and residents gathered around the wreckage of the ATR 72, which was 15 years old according to flight tracking website FlightRadar24.
"The rescue operation is in progress," said a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
"The weather was clear."
Following the crash, the Prime Minister announced that he would convene an emergency cabinet meeting.
