Even as a child, Theresa Frömberg wanted to be a model.

Now the 26-year-old from Berglern is fulfilling this dream.

She starts as a curvy model.

Erding – Theresa Frömberg wears size 42 to 44 and is a trendy curvy model – her curves belong to her like her pretty face and blonde curls.

She stands in front of the camera for well-known fashion brands and maybe even walks the catwalk at the Berlin Fashion Week, which started on Friday, January 13th.

We spoke to the 26-year-old from Berglern in the Erding district about her career - and asked her for tips for women who are dissatisfied with their bodies.

Curvy model Frömberg loves life too much to want to limit himself

You are a successful model – was that your childhood dream?

Fromberg:

Yes, actually.

My grandmother drove me to Munich for my very first photo shoot for “Bravo Girl”.

I was booked and realized that I can do it.

But weight has always been an issue for me.

Between the ages of 12 and 14, I always tried to achieve my supposed dream weight.

The sticking point was an unpleasant experience at a model agency in Munich.

There they said to me: Theresa, we'll take you straight away based on your face - but overall you're too big for us.

I had suspected something like that, even though I was thinner then than I am today.

But that was awesome.

What did that do to you?

Frömberg:

After that I said I'd apply again in a year and by then I'd lose weight.

The evaluation of my face confirmed me - I only had to overcome the obstacle body.

I made it, with a lot of exercise and a different diet.

But I also noticed that my body couldn't cope with it.

I couldn't hold that weight.

I like to enjoy life and don't always want to watch what I'm allowed to eat.

And, and this was the most important finding, I should have restricted myself so that I was no longer myself.

Theresa Frömberg: With grandma to the casting in Holland

Then this harsh judgment of your body strengthened you.

It drives others into anorexia.

Frömberg:

I've come to terms with it.

And I pretty much gave up on my modeling dream, got my high school diploma and studied hotel and tourism management.

For me it was clear: I want to stay as I am.

But I kept thinking about modeling.

And eventually you were back in the game.

Frömberg:

Then came the movement that looks at curvy women like me.

I wrote to an agency in Holland.

I went to the casting in Amsterdam with my grandmother.

I was actually signed, my first job was right away for Mango in Barcelona.

So your family has always supported you?

Fromberg:

Yes, totally.

My grandmother was my lucky charm and almost famous because she took me to many castings.

My mom was always behind me unconditionally, but she never wanted to talk me into an industry that pays so much attention to body measurements.

When the curvy model topic came up, my parents were relieved that I didn't have to bend over backwards for anyone.

The first time on a larger-than-life poster – “an indescribable feeling”

How has it been since then?

Frömberg:

I had to work my way up in terms of fees and customers.

Corona has set many things to zero.

But since 2022 I've also been doing big campaigns, I've been to London, my agencies are also in New York, Milan, Sweden and Belgium.

The coolest job so far was before Christmas in Cape Town, where I did two spring campaigns for Amazon Fashion and C&A.

And in February I was in Gran Canaria for C&A.

How does it feel when you see yourself bigger than life on a poster?

Frömberg:

That's an indescribable feeling, every time an event.

It doesn't stop either - you don't think to yourself: Oh, it's me again!

More and more fashion chains also show their clothes on curvy models.

Some stores have fuller mannequins.

Where is the trend coming from?

Frömberg:

The younger generation is more concerned with ensuring that everyone can be and live as they wish.

This not only has something to do with the body, but also with love and self-love.

The problem: is it just a trend or will it stay?

Unfortunately, there are many brands that only show curvy models to appear open.

I wish more brands would normalize modern styles for curvy women as well – and not just wallowy clothes that cover everything up.

You have dress size 42 to 44. Do you also get nasty comments about your figure?

Frömberg:

I haven't found out about that yet.

My Instagram channel is rather small, so far I've only had positive reactions.

But I know colleagues who really struggle with it.

This is really mean.

Theresa Frömberg: "I'm now concentrating fully on modeling"

They also present underwear.

Did you have to push yourself to do it?

Frömberg:

To be honest, I still have the fears.

You have to grow a thick skin in this industry.

But you learn: They don't book you for no reason.

The customer knows the dimensions in advance and knows your body from photos.

If they book you, you obviously fit the brand.

Do you have role models?

Fromberg:

Yes.

I am particularly inspired by Sarina Nowak, who took part in “Germany's Next Topmodel” on television as a very thin model and is now enjoying a meteoric career as a plus-size model in the USA.

What's next for you?

Frömberg:

I'm 26 and just beginning.

But I'm fully focused on modeling now.

I'm at the Fashion Week in Berlin right now, my first ever.

I'm so excited!

I take part in the castings and that's where it's decided whether I'm allowed on the catwalk.

That would be my first job in front of an audience.

Many women struggle with their weight at the beginning of the year and make some weight loss resolutions.

What are you shouting at them?

Frömberg:

Love yourself!

You should work on this self-love and not constantly badmouth your body.

The body belongs to us and it carries us through our lives.

You have to feel comfortable.

If you don't feel good anymore, you have to change something.

But I haven't weighed myself for a year because I want to listen to my feelings.
