The Bundeswehr is facing major challenges.
Apparently there isn't even enough money for petrol.
The Ministry of Finance probably also gave a reprimand.
Munich/Berlin – Who screwed up what?
Or at least overlooked?
Despite the special fund of more than 100 billion euros, the deficiencies in the German Bundeswehr under the traffic light coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP are apparently still serious: the Federal Republic's army apparently does not even have enough money for fuel and maneuvers.
This is reported by the
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ)
.
German Bundeswehr: Missions in Kosovo and Mali - but no money for fuel?
And that while the NATO obligations for the troops have been increasing for months.
Finally, in the Ukraine war, the Russian army in the Donbass around Soledar and Bakhmut is again on the offensive.
At the same time, a new international conflict in the Balkans in Bosnia cannot be ruled out.
Around 70 Bundeswehr soldiers are also stationed in Kosovo, where there are new tensions between militant Serbs and Albanian Kosovars.
But there are problems even at home.
According to the
FAZ
report, the financial requirement for maneuvers in 2023 alone is around 340 million euros.
It is about fuel and ammunition for the exercises of the Bundeswehr.
In the defense budget for 2023, however, only 253 million euros were budgeted for this

No money for maneuvers?
Traffic light federal government apparently has to correct the defense budget
The federal government estimates the defense budget at 50 billion euros, regardless of the 100 billion euros in special funds.
The
FAZ
ascribes the responsibility for budget and controlling in the troops to Christine Lambrecht's (SPD) Federal Defense Minister.
"The Federal Minister of Defense has the authority to command and command the armed forces," says Article 65a of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany.
In this case, it is a federal minister.
Who has to put up with reproaches because of her department?
Lambrecht has been under criticism for weeks.
For example, because she allegedly does not know the ranks in the Bundeswehr.
According to the
FAZ
, which writes of a "scarcity economy", there are irritations between Lambrecht's SPD-led house and the Federal Ministry of Finance, which reports to the coalition partner FDP under party leader Christian Lindner.

Lindner allegedly let Lambrecht know: "I have to state that you did not express the need to procure ammunition mentioned here either during the negotiation on the special fund or in the course of the parliamentary procedure." It was not until the beginning of December that the Ministry of Defense contacted Lindner's ministry written to "correct the omission," the report goes on to say.
Bundeswehr: Ministry of Finance criticizes Christine Lambrecht's Ministry of Defense
The Ministry of Finance has therefore criticized a "complicated, partly non-transparent and inconsistent planning of requirements as well as bureaucratic ordering processes".
The Ministry of Defense, on the other hand, justifies itself by referring to price increases for transport and energy.
