From the classroom to the police van: The
Tel Aviv Municipality claims this morning (Sunday) that the police arrested last Thursday an eight-year-old student of foreign origin whose parents are foreign workers and candidates for deportation.
The arrest took place at the school in the middle of the school day.
The student was put in a police car and has been in custody ever since.
In a letter published this morning by the Director of Education in the Tel Aviv Municipality, Shirley Rimon Bracha, she said that last Thursday, the director of the Hasmonean school located in Jaffa, received a call from the Immigration Police.
The police asked to come with a social worker to the educational institution in order to ask the student studying in the second grade about his mother.

According to her, when the police arrived at the scene, the student "was taken out of the school without a social worker, directly into a police car, and has been in custody ever since."
She said that his father came to the scene to protect him but had to run away from the police because he too has no status in Israel.
"The mind and the heart cannot tolerate such sights, of an 8-year-old boy who was taken by the police from the school. All the more not in the Jewish state, and not in the democratic Jewish state."

The response of the Population and Immigration Authority: "We are dealing with an illegal resident from Ghana, who has been in Israel for several years, and who was previously asked to leave Israel and even signed an undertaking to do so.
"The lady has two children who live in Ghana and another child who lives with her in Israel. She was arrested about a week ago and was released after committing to appear with her son for the continuation of the process. When she appeared without the child and did not cooperate with the procedure, enforcement administration employees and foreigners were forced to accompany her to school with the coordination of the school principal and with her assistance. The child was taken out of the car in which the mother was staying, and reunited with her to continue the process of removing her from Israel.'
The Population and Immigration Authority stated that there was no immigration police at the scene, nor a police car.
