The distinguishing mark on the license plate is often the target of ridicule from other motorists.
Anyone who comes from Offenbach therefore drives without a driver's license.
Without a number plate, nothing works on the road.
In Germany there are different types of license plates - depending on the occasion, duration and age of the car.
Most of these start with the distinguishing sign, which consists of up to three letters and shows where the car is registered.
Exceptions are diplomatic license plates or license plates that are used by the Bundeswehr.
Similar to the specific car models, the location code is used in many places to taunt one another.
Of course, the whole thing depends on the respective region, even if some interpretations of the distinguishing mark on the license plate are known nationwide.
When asked how you fail the driving test three times in Frankfurt, you should also hear the right answer outside of the banking metropolis.

In truth, of course, stands for Offenbach.

In Frankfurt, of course, people have a different opinion, after all, they are as good at speaking about the neighboring city as a Düsseldorfer is about Cologne.

But even outside of Hesse, drivers don't have it easy if they have the wrong location code on their number plates.
Whoever comes from the Rhein-Erft-Kreis (BM) quickly becomes a murderer with tires.
And from the Main-Tauber-Kreis (TBB) come a thousand stupid farmers.

Some interpretations of the distinguishing sign don't sound so bad at first, but are meant to be deeply sarcastic.
The Lahn-Dill district (LDK), for example, is often decried as the land of kings.
Stade, on the other hand, is considered the most beautiful part of Germany.

The division between East and West can still be seen in the mocking of license plates to this day, as Der Spiegel reports.
Anyone who comes from Wolfsburg (WOB), for example, is a Wessi with no education.
A "brainlessly raging Ossi" is actually a car driver from Rostock (HRO).
