Tom and Kati have been in a relationship for seven years.

They haven't married yet.

The result: Toms Spezl set up a hunger tree for the couple in their garden in Kirchdorf.

Kirchdorf –

He is conceivably “schiach”: He is crooked and anything but straight, two dolls are attached, plus a large plush penguin and a road boundary post.

In short: a spawn of ugliness.

And so the hunger tree, which has stood in the garden of the Hadler family in Kirchdorf since Epiphany, fulfills its purpose exactly.

Beautiful is different: The hunger tree that Thomas Hadler's friends put up is really "shiach".

Because such a hunger tree, according to a tradition that is not yet very widespread, is set up for couples who have been together for seven years but are still not married: This applies to Tom Hadler and his girlfriend Kati, which is why Tom's circle of friends and his elder brother Andreas had set to work to erect such a hunger tree.

According to Andreas Hadler, the opportunity was good: His younger brother is currently spending a semester abroad in the USA (Seattle), a few weeks ago his girlfriend Kati followed him, and they have been back since Saturday evening.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

And there, to their surprise, they will find that ghastly hunger tree, which is not only a visually wonderfully unsightly eyesore, but also obliges the couple.

Because: Every year the couple has to organize a big party with all the trimmings for the ten or so people who set up the hunger tree – until the wedding bells ring.

Many people worked to ensure that the hunger tree in Kirchdorf actually became such an ugly memorial, says Andreas Hadler: Each of Tom's friends searched their basement and/or attic, a friend cut the ugliest tree out of their forest - and that's it had the utensils for the monster at hand, came on January 6th with an earth auger to set up the terrible piece.

All that was missing was the explanatory sign, which was also given to the tree of hunger and which enlightens the couple and the passers-by: "You repeat that with the snack every year until Tom leads d'Kati to the altar.

And so that you always think about it, give us a gift to the Hungerbam”, is one of the things that can be read on it.
