In Mexico today (Sunday) one of the strictest laws in the world against tobacco went into effect - the country prohibits smoking in public places.
The measure, already approved in 2021, also includes a ban on the advertising of tobacco products.
According to the BBC, several Latin American countries have also passed similar legislation to create smoke-free spaces.
However, the legislation in Mexico is considered the strictest in America.

The country's existing law from 2008, which stated that smoke-free spaces must be maintained in bars, restaurants and workplaces, has now been expanded to a blanket ban on smoking in all public spaces, including parks, beaches, hotels and offices.
In addition, a ban on advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products came into effect, and it is impossible to display cigarettes on store shelves.
Electronic cigarettes are now also subject to new restrictions, especially in indoor spaces.
