Demonstrations continued against the removal of Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, despite the announcement by the new authority, led by Dina Polarti, to extend the state of emergency in several regions in an attempt to end the popular protests against it.

The demonstrators blocked traffic in 11 out of 25 regions in Peru, especially the south of the country, the center of the protests, and confirmed that they would continue to protest despite the extension of the imposition of the state of emergency and their intention to go from the south of the country to the capital, Lima.

"We made the decision to go to Lima as of Monday," said Julio Filca, one of the leaders of the protests in Elaf district.

The demonstrators are calling for the release of President Castillo, the dissolution of Parliament, the formation of a Constituent Assembly, the resignation of Polwarti and the holding of early elections.

The government extended the state of emergency for a period of 30 days and allowed the army to intervene to suppress the protests. It also restricted freedom of movement and assembly and imposed a night curfew in some areas, including in the provinces of Cusco and Puno in the south of the country.

And the police announced the arrest of Rocío Leandro, one of the leaders of the protests in the Ayacucho region, accusing her of belonging to an outlawed movement.

The crackdown on protests has so far resulted in the killing of 42 demonstrators in five weeks.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, which concluded an inspection mission in Peru, called for an impartial investigation into the crackdown, citing evidence of excessive use of force.

The crisis erupted on the seventh of last December, when the parliament dissolved by President Castillo removed him and appointed his deputy Polwarti as president of the country, while the new authority arrested the deposed president and decided to keep him in pretrial detention for 18 months.
