TAG Heuer reinterprets its Monza in a carbon and skeletonized version

2023-01-15T22:51:24.549Z

This Flyback Chronometer is a special edition that is as contemporary as it is spectacular, combining a carbon case and a skeleton dial.

It has just been unveiled during LVMH Watch Week 2023 in Singapore.

But in reality, it had already been under the eyes of the world for a few months: on the wrist of Christian Horner, principal of the Oracle Red Bull Racing team.

This special edition of the Monza, a skeleton Flyback Chronometer, reminds him of a personal memory: it is the watch he bought to celebrate his first racing successes:

“The TAG Heuer Monza is one of the most important watches in my collection.

I care a lot about it.

The original was my very first TAG Heuer watch.

When Ardern won the Monaco support race, the prize was given to me in cash and I bought myself the TAG Heuer Monza from the Nice airport boutique to mark the occasion.

I'm really happy that TAG Heuer chose to reintroduce this model.

The first Heuer Monza watch already had racing DNA: it was actually born in 1976 to celebrate Niki Lauda's historic victory in the Formula 1 World Championship in 1975. The champion would call this intense season

"the incredible year »

, it is the one where he won his first world title with five victories for Scuderia Ferrari.

The Heuer team had been the technical partner for timekeeping since 1971. Jack Heuer would like to mark this important date with a no less remarkable watch: the Heuer Monza.

A model that was originally to be called Modena, named after the birthplace of Ferrari.

But its creators quickly realize the power of the name of the very first Italian racing circuit.

This watch will therefore be a tribute to the fastest Formula 1 circuit in the world, an iconic place whose high-speed corners, like the legendary Parabolica in the shadow of the original curved track, have stood the test of time.

This year, the TAG Heuer Monza is back in a spectacular carbon version.

“We are delighted to re-present the TAG Heuer Monza, one of our most important creations, which represents a very rich emotional and historical legacy in motorsports”

, says Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer.

This very special reinterpretation features a skeleton dial revealing its movement, and two auxiliary dials in translucent blue smoked sapphire crystal: a minute counter at 3 o'clock and a permanent seconds counter at 6 o'clock.

The unique skeleton dial reveals the hidden movement at the back thus recalling its mechanical origins.

At 9 o'clock, the date window is, for the very first time, luminescent blue.

Its blue lacquered indexes and black and white lacquered hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova for optimal readability in low light conditions.

This Monza Flyback Chronometer is equipped with the Manufacture Caliber Heuer 02 Flyback movement, COSC certified.

Its Flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset without stopping it thanks to the steel push-buttons coated with black DLC.

This function, until now only available on the current TAG Heuer Autavia collection, allows even faster and more precise timekeeping.

This chronograph offers three essential functions to the racing driver: a chronograph, a tachymetric scale indicating the average speed per kilometer or mile measured using the indicator on the black flange, and finally a pulsometer indicating the heart rate per minute .

This function is visible on the blue line at the top right of the dial.

It is calibrated for

15 beats per minute.

The user starts the chronograph and counts 15 beats: the result is indicated when the chronograph is stopped.

The pulsometer has a scale of 60 to 200 beats per minute.

Red details on the dial such as the subdial hands and the frame of the date window evoke exhilarating speed and racing hearts.

They offer an elegant contrast with the black dial and case, the indexes, the seconds hand and the topstitching of the light blue personalized textile strap.
