The company Valve, which is responsible for the Steam platform for the PC and some of the biggest games in the industry, experienced one of the biggest leaks in its history.

Source files for games like Portal, Counter Strike, Half-Life 2 (expansion packs), Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat have found themselves online.

This leak came from the WandererLeaker group on Discord, and it's about very important asset repositories and developer kits, and virtually every Valve game built on its own Source engine has experienced a leak.

This is the most serious leak known to the company, perhaps since 2003 when the source code of Half-Life 2 was distributed online.

The leaked files weigh in at over 61 gigabytes and contain maps, character models, designs and special effects that were never revealed or made it to the final product.

Some of the content was eventually adopted into games in one form or another, but usually with minor changes.

This gives players a rare glimpse of a lot of content that never made it into the company's games, with an emphasis on Team Fortress 2.

In the Discord group of the leakers, they stated that they have been holding the files since 2016 and have not uploaded them until today because, according to them, they "received threats" (presumably legal).

The community of Valve players is celebrating the "treasure" that has been revealed to them, and the Reddit forums are flooded with discussions and content that has been revealed.

Those who were hoping for some information about Half-Life, Portal or Left 4 Dead 3 will likely be disappointed, and there is no mention of any of these projects in the files.

But they certainly come full circle for the TR2 community, and they're exposed to a whole lot of secrets that Valve has kept to themselves over the years.

This leak joins the Left 4 Dead game prototype from earlier last week.
