A Texas man confessed to authorities that he murdered and mutilated his wife, according to a news release issued by the Waller County Sheriff's Office.

Jared James Dicus was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Wednesday, according to online court records.

The Waller County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a possible death at a home in southeast Texas, about an hour from Houston, around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Agents found the body of a woman in a "small residential structure" located behind the house.

The body had been mutilated, according to the sheriff's office.

KPRC 2, an affiliate of NBC News, the sister network of Noticias Telemundo, reported that parts of her body had been dismembered and that the house was covered in blood.

The victim was identified by Waller County Judge Trey Duhon and his family as 21-year-old Anggy Diaz.

Dicus, the husband of the deceased woman, was arrested at the scene and later confessed to authorities that he allegedly murdered his wife.

The suspect is being held on $500,000 bail, according to online court records.

At the moment there is no lawyer in his favor.

In a Facebook post, Judge Duhon recalled that he had married the young couple in October 2022.

“During the short time I spent with them, they were a very nice young couple,” he wrote.

"Like many of you, I am very saddened and shocked by the news of this tragic event and my prayers are with all their families," she detailed.

Duhon said he removed a post announcing the marriage of Diaz and Dicus that contained a photo of himself with the couple "primarily due to the insensitive nature of some of the comments" made in the post.

A collection on the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform started by Díaz's uncle, Irvan Orellana, to help with funeral expenses remembers the victim as "daughter, sister, niece and friend."

“Our family is devastated by the loss of such a young life,” Orellana wrote.

“She was the light to our family and community.

She always with a smile and a cheerful personality.

Her absence in our lives will be felt forever,” she noted.

The Waller County Sheriff's Office and the District Attorney's Office are investigating the murder.

The district attorney's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
