The Information Security Center at the National Authority for Network Services warned of the spread of a malicious software application called Syrian-Telecom.apk, which impersonates the Syrian Telecom Company by using its logo, and targets Android smartphone operating systems.
In a statement published by the authority on its Facebook page, the center stated that the operator of the harmful application selects specific users and sends them a link to download the application, claiming that this application was issued by the Syrian Telecom Company for the purpose of protecting cellular devices, in addition to the possibility that its operators resort to other means to spread it, such as social media. social, pop-ups or ads.
The center pointed out that after installing the harmful application, it obtains access permissions to all the device’s resources and data, and full control over the hacked device by the operating party, indicating that the operating party of the application can steal all user data and hack its accounts on social media and other accounts that it uses with the possibility Download other malicious software such as ransomware.
The center called on citizens to take caution and caution, and not to download any application belonging to the Syrian Telecom Company or any other applications except through the links on the official website of the party that owns the application or download them from the application store available on every mobile device, pointing to the need to inform the center in the event that it has been downloaded.
