According to Ariel Musikant, the acting president of the European Jewish Congress, the Jews on the continent will be a target for the regime in Tehran in the event of the failure of the diplomatic path on the nuclear issue.

In the event of a military conflict between Iran and Israel - a scenario that may be approaching if the negotiations on the nuclear agreement are indeed declared a failure - the Jewish communities in Europe will be targets of attacks from Iran, warns Ariel Musikant, the acting president of the European Jewish Congress.

"If the nuclear agreement is not extended, one day there will be an armed conflict between Israel and Iran and this will have consequences," Musikant warned, "the Jewish communities in Europe will be the 'soft underbelly' of such a conflict.

Every Iranian embassy in Europe is full of 'Revolutionary Guards' people.

hundreds of them.

Already today we in Jewish communities in almost all Western European countries are experiencing 'incidents'.

There should be a strategy to deal with this situation and I ask that Israel consider this situation for the future.'

Musicant spoke at a conference of heads of Jewish communities in Europe held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.

Last night's leaders' conference was attended by about 40 heads of Jewish communities from 28 countries on the continent, who met this morning (Monday) with the country's president Yitzhak Herzog.

At the conference, which was organized by the European Division and the Division for Diasporas and Religions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the participants discuss issues relevant to Jewish life in the Diaspora such as anti-Semitism and hate speech on the Internet, legislation that restricts Jewish life, the relationship between the State of Israel and the Jewish communities in the world and the changes taking place in the Middle East.

Musikant called for the formation of a common policy between Israel and the Jewish communities in Europe in the face of the rise in power of the sovereign and extreme right parties in Europe and their increasing inclusion in governments throughout the European Union.

"In 2017, we had a big debate with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about how to treat the far-right parties.

Our position then is not our position today, and we want to soon formulate a new position together with Israel.'

Musicant called on Israel's new government to be in contact with the Jewish communities, especially in the context of policy changes that will have consequences for the communities in Europe, such as the issue of the Law of Return and religious matters.

Musikant emphasized that small communities in European countries could disappear in about fifty years and asked Israel to help the European communities in strengthening Jewish identity and education programs.

"The 18 to 30-year-olds don't care about Israel.

Their grandfathers supported the establishment of the State of Israel, their parents supported its strengthening, and the grandchildren have no connection to Israel.

The planned cut of the 'Tagalit' program is a disaster.

Israel needs to take responsibility for the Jews in exile more than before.'
