The source, who is involved in the efforts to promote the reform, clarifies: the legal system would be wise to join the discussion, or the government will shape the power relations between the authorities according to its understanding.

A senior official in the coalition, which is involved in efforts to advance the legal reform, clarifies that there is no intention to approve the whole thing as one piece.

In a conversation with Israel Hayom, the political official said that the government's working assumption is that a dialogue will be opened with senior officials of the judicial system.

In these contacts, he estimated, it will become clear which are the more problematic elements of the reform from the point of view of the jurists, and which are the sections on which an agreement can be reached.

According to him, it is clear to government representatives that some of the elements of the reform proposed by Justice Minister Yariv Levin create duplication.

Therefore, there is a willingness to give up some of the components of the package so that in the end there will be a significant change in the balance of power between the judicial authority and the other authorities, but it will not include all the components of the Levin package.

The government's willingness to compromise may be an example of this: in exchange for the judiciary's willingness to accept the structure proposed by Levin for the committee for selecting judges, the government will agree to increase the number of MKs required to re-approve a law invalidated by the Supreme Court. Another alternative maneuver is possible between the government's demand to cancel the system The seniority and the intention to control the committee for selecting judges.

However, in order to formulate notes of this type, it is necessary to have a dialogue that has not yet begun.

Even President Yitzhak Herzog's efforts to open a channel between the government and the jurists have not yet succeeded.

First of all - a conversation

According to the official, the legal system would do wisely if it entered into a discussion with the government on the components of the package, since that way it would be able to influence the final product.

Without such a discourse, the government will shape the power relations between the authorities according to its understanding.

It should be noted that the statements of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Justice Minister Levin and the chair of the Constitutional Committee MK Simcha Rothman indicate that they are willing to change elements of the reform proposal.

At no point did Netanyahu express a commitment to the Levin reform, but content himself with general statements about the need to change the balance between the authorities.

At the Likud faction meeting this evening (Monday), Netanyahu contented himself with saying that "the reform will be launched", but did not commit that it would be completed.

Levin and Rothman said in their public statements that they are open to hearing positions from all sides, and will consider changes to the reform proposal - if they are convinced of their necessity.
