It is often said that the New Year brings renewal and surprises, although, nevertheless, on this occasion it brought, above all, concern among the residents of
Country Los Rosales
, located in Canning, Ezeiza district,
since they denounced the presence of a family of foxes in the vicinity of their houses,
and they don't know what to do.
It is not a one-off problem.
Although the largest number of reports occurred during the first days of January, already since the beginning of December there were complaints, publications on networks and calls to the fire department for the presence of foxes in different neighborhoods -such as Los Rosales, Venado, Terralagos, and others. - The town with the largest number of private housing estates in the South of the Buenos Aires suburbs.
"Good evening. I have a fox in my house, it has been here for a week. Does anyone know who I should contact? I live near (the closed neighborhood) Terralagos, if it belongs to someone please contact, it is killing the animals of my house," another neighbor posted on a Facebook group.
The main fear has to do, moreover, not only about how to deal with this wild animal,
but, above all,
because of the dangers that contact with pets represents.
And not only with
dogs and cats, pets.
A neighbor reported that a family of foxes killed a total of 40 chickens from two different pens.
Eric Sambón, coordinator of Action with the Community of the Delta Program of the Temaiken Foundation, where the foxes that were rescued from these situations and required veterinary attention have been referred, indicates: "What is happening is that
due to real estate developments that were occurring in places where this fauna was originally,
the animals began to inhabit other places, whether it be wildlife, natural fauna, whether they are foxes or a lot of other species".
The image taken by a neighbor of the Los Rosales country estate, in Canning, shows a fox meters from the house.
"What is happening now - he indicates - is not that these animals appear out of nowhere,
but that they are once again having a presence in the place they had previously,
and that is why the meetings are now taking place."
The first thing we recommend in case it occurs is to avoid any type of contact, understanding that it is wildlife, even though one may see the animal as something friendly, something nice,
always for security reasons, one and all. of the animal, and for sanitary reasons as well", indicates the specialist.
"It is always advisable to avoid contact and be patient because surely as he arrived he will continue on his way and there will be no incidents," he adds.
Sambón remarks that beyond the sightings and eventual attacks on other animals, attacks on humans have never been reported.
He also
comments that in the area where they are found, it is possible that not only foxes appear, but also
capybaras, black-eyed lizards, lagoon turtles and large birds.
A little over a year ago there was a similar case.
A family of foxes was rescued from El Sosiego country.
What does stand out is care in contact with pets, since pets, by natural instinct and due to a matter of territoriality, can try to get closer and even defend themselves and attack the animal that is roaming the area.
"There, if perhaps there is a point of care that would be to prevent pets from approaching because it will generate a somewhat uncomfortable encounter for both of them, for the wild animal and for the pet," he says.
Another neighbor who lives in the area of the Ezeiza forests and who has had several contacts with these animals, expresses: "
Foxes abound, they are wild, but they are harmless, they prefer to flee at any gesture that seems to them as possible aggression
. They usually start to appear in autumn or winter when the natural food begins to disappear"
Approximately 30 days ago, sightings of foxes had been reported in the same area in the
Country of Canning Venado II,
generating fear and confusion among the neighbors.
Sambón points out: "In the face of a possible sighting of a wildlife animal, the first thing to try is to avoid removing an animal from the habitat that does not need to leave there."
On the other hand, he expresses:
It worries that they will approach the pets and attack them.
"If the animal is not in a risky situation, if there is no danger, or there is nothing particular that requires intervention in some way,
what is always recommended is not to move it,
not to move it because it is an occasional situation and the animal He's going on his way."
"Now, in the event that, for example, the animal is injured or has been run over, or our dog has attacked it for something in particular, or that it is a pigeon that we see that cannot fly again or some situation like that in particular,
what is done is the following:
within the jurisdiction of the province of buenos aires it is necessary to give notice to the
Directorate of Flora and Fauna of the Province of Buenos Aires
, which is the agency of the application above all that has to do with wildlife. In some municipalities there are even environmental police and municipal directorates, in which case the environmental police can act at the moment and if not the Flora and Fauna Directorate of the Province of Buenos Aires."
At such a point, in that particular situation, the action procedure is as follows: notice is given to the Directorate of Flora and Fauna of the Province of Buenos Aires and they decide what type of intervention must be given.
"In the event that they can collaborate or that the agency assesses that they need Temaiken
's technical collaboration
to manage the animal, such as capture, transfer, healing, and others.
The situation is analyzed and we intervene with that situation in particular"
, stand out from the entity.
