Assessment: Netanyahu will ask the American National Security Advisor to increase the pressure on Tehran • Sullivan will also meet with Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and Defense Minister Yoav Galant

Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser of the USA, will arrive in Israel tomorrow evening and meet with the country's president, Yitzhak Herzog. This is the first visit of an American official to Israel since the establishment of the new government. The next day he has a busy day: a series of meetings with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, with Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, with Defense Minister General Yoav Galant and with his colleague, head of the National Assembly Tzachi Hanegbi.

Sullivan will come to Israel mainly to be updated on the positions of the new government on a series of issues that are on the agenda, chief among them the Iranian threat.

The national security adviser is expected to talk with Netanyahu and the Israeli officials about the cooperation between Iran and Russia in the framework of the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Palestinian arena, the possibility of normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia and other regional issues.

Sullivan is also expected to find out with Netanyahu the meaning of the changes in the status of the Civil Administration in Yash, and its subordination to the Minister of Finance and the chairman of the Religious Zionist Party, Bezalel Smotrich.

Still formulating messages

In Israel, the messages that will be presented to the American official in the meetings are still being formulated.

Based on public statements, it is estimated that Netanyahu's position on the Iranian issue is expected to be firm, and he will strive to increase American pressure on Tehran.

Also, Netanyahu will repeat the message according to which Israel will be right to act against Iran alone if necessary.

Words in this spirit were said by the Prime Minister at the ceremony of the exchange of chiefs of staff.

"Iran is responsible for 90% of the problems in the Middle East," Netanyahu said.

"The aggression of the fanatical regime in Tehran is destabilizing our region. As someone who has the right to lead our strong country, I say clearly: We will not wait for a sharp sword to be placed on our necks."

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Eli Cohen left last night for his first political trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Cohen replaces Netanyahu at the leaders' summit, and is expected to meet during the conference with foreign ministers and other senior officials from around the world.
