It's finally back in Penzberg: the carnival.

After two years of a forced break due to the pandemic, the organizing committee (OC) Penzberger Fasching celebrated an opulent coronation ball in a packed town hall on Saturday, at which Mayor Stefan Korpan also handed the key to the town hall to the fools.

Penzberg – "Oh yes, and how missing that was," answered a guest on Saturday evening when asked whether the carnival enthusiasts in Penzberg missed the two years without balls, parades and the like.

How right he was was shown at the festive gala ball in a packed city hall, where the ladies in evening dresses and the gentlemen in suits not only filled the large hall, but also looked down from the gallery on the upper floor at the hustle and bustle in the hall.

And then the Elferrat marched in around OC President Maxi Eller.

This year's royal household followed in vinyl and leather, and then the dancers of the Guard, who strode through the aisle to the stage in jagged marching steps.

About an hour before the main actors of this year's carnival marched in, the two Highnesses had received the key to the town hall from Mayor Stefan Korpan - the official sign of the fools' takeover of power over the city of Penzberg.

“We desperately need that at this time”

For the head of the town hall, it was the first time that he had to hand over the oversized cardboard key - or was he allowed to?

"I saw it coming, that I would now be deprived of my duties," Korpan said calmly about his disempowerment over the next six weeks.

That's not bad, because: "Some people may say anyway that the town hall and fools go very well together."

Korpan was relieved that a normal carnival can finally be celebrated again, and that people can put their worries aside at least for a short time, because: "We really need that at the moment." Korpan wished the two highnesses for their reign , "that you bring humor and cheerfulness to your people".

In their inaugural speech, the Highnesses traditionally also took a teasingly critical look at what was happening in the city: The fact that Penzberg is still referred to as a shopping town "now sounds more like a carnival joke to me," said the Princess, for example, while Prince Thomas suggested that in to install two whirlpools with counters in the future indoor pool.

Wheat beer, for example, could then be served at them.

“That would give us a pub bath,” said the prince.

And Penzberg could call itself "Bad Penzberg" and charge a visitor's tax.

Two encores required
