GAP / Region – Since the tragic train accident in Burgrain last June, Deutsche Bahn (DB) has increasingly relied on maintenance measures and is digging deep into their pockets for this.

Hardly had the shock gotten over when a train accident in Peiting on January 10 caused a stir and made headlines again: The regional train in Peiting had apparently derailed due to a faulty switch - fortunately without personal injury.

In this case, the train driver recognized a signal warning too late, the Bavarian Regiobahn said.

After the train accident in June 2022, slow-moving sections were also set up as a precaution in the area of the affected Pfaffenwinkelbahn.

As a consequence of the Burgain accident, the railways had begun to check and partially replace around 200,000 concrete sleepers nationwide.

Since autumn 2022, the DB has gradually eliminated so-called "slow driving points" in numerous places in the Werdenfelser Land and in the Oberland and carried out renewal work on the tracks.

Among other things, rails and sleepers were changed.

DB is now pressing ahead with the extensive investment program with a volume of over 80 million euros for the rehabilitation of the routes.

Plans for this are in full swing, reports company spokesmen.

With the modernization, DB is relying on a fundamental renewal of rails, sleepers and the track substructure.

By 2025, the routes Tutzing - Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Mittenwald, Weilheim - Geltendorf, Weilheim - Schongau, Tutzing - Kochel and Murnau - Oberammergau as well as Holzkirchen - Rosenheim, Holzkirchen - Lenggries and Holzkirchen - Schliersee - Bayrischzell should benefit from the investment program.

According to Bahn, investment programs are also being examined for other routes in regional transport.

According to the current status, around 42 kilometers of track are to be renewed this year on the Tutzing-Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen-Griesen and Garmisch-Partenkirchen-Mittenwald routes.

The focus is also on the station tracks and points in Kaltenbrunn, Klais, Bichl, Geltendorf and Utting.

The exact blocking periods are still being worked out.

Passengers will be informed in good time about route closures and replacement bus services.
