When marines support daycare centers in Upper Bavaria, that's something extraordinary.

This happened recently during a visit by a dedicated marine delegation in Weilheim.

Weilheim

- The crew of the mine hunting boat "Weilheim" has confirmed the connection to their Bavarian twin town: After a three-year Corona break, a delegation again sold mulled wine at the Christmas market in the district town.

The proceeds - more than 4800 euros - were then donated to local childcare.

A return visit to the far north is expected to take place in 2024.

The sponsorship of the city of Weilheim for the active mine hunting boat "Weilheim" has existed for 25 years this year and it could therefore actually be an anniversary, as Hans Stibich, first chairman of the Weilheim Marine Association, says.

Nevertheless, there will probably not be a visit to the north this year.

One reason for this is that the boat is currently not in use at all, because it is being overhauled at the Pene shipyard in Wolgast and test runs are then due, for example.

In addition, the new "Weilheim" commander, Maximilian Hirnstein, and some of the new boat crew would first have to familiarize themselves.

Captain Lieutenant thanked for the very good sponsorship relationship

The lieutenant captain has been in office since the end of September 2022, but "because of an important course", says Stibich, he was unable to come to the Christmas market in Weilheim.

He was represented on this visit by his deputy, 1st Watch Officer Lieutenant Moritz Benra, who headed the eight-strong delegation.

"In his speech in the Trachtenvereinsheim, the lieutenant captain thanked him.

Benra on behalf of the entire crew for the very good sponsorship relationship with Mayor Markus Loth and the Weilheim Marine Fellowship," says Stibich.

The officer also thanked for the accommodation in a family environment.

The Navy delegation donated the proceeds from the sale of mulled wine, 4842 euros, in equal parts to the local mother and family center (Müze) and to the newly founded support association for the municipal childcare facilities in Weilheim.

The Müze urgently needs the 2421 euros for the playground of the "Zwergerltreff" daycare center, explains Stibich.

Last year, as part of the boat sponsorship, there was not only a visit from the former "Weilheim" commander, Beata Król, to the district town (we reported): A delegation from the naval camaraderie had previously had one of the last trips of the "Weilheim" in front of their shipyard -Stay accompanied.

In addition, a delegation from Weilheim attended the appointment of the new commander in Kiel.

And then a group of naval companionship also took care of the former sponsored boat of the city of Weilheim, which has been in the naval museum in Wilhelmshaven since 1998.

She helped maintain the old "Weilheim" (also a minehunter) for a week in August.

Among other things, she cleaned, sanded, repaired and repainted the gun.
