Temperatures in the world's coldest city have plummeted to minus 50 degrees Celsius (-58 Fahrenheit).
The eastern Siberian city of Yakutsk, widely identified as one of the coldest places in the world, has experienced an abnormally prolonged cold snap.
January is the coldest month, and while used to freezing temperatures, residents of the remote region are taking extra precautions to stay warm.

"You can't fight it," a resident dressed in two scarves and several layers of gloves, hats and hoods told Reuters.
"Either you adapt and dress accordingly or you suffer."
The layers, according to another resident selling frozen fish at a local market, are the key.
"Just bundle up. Layered, like a cabbage," he said.
In 2018, it was so cold that some residents said their eyelashes froze.
Home to less than a million people, Yakutsk's winters can be extreme, even by Russian standards.

But the city drew international attention in July when haze from nearby wildfires swept through the forests, blanketing the region in thick smoke.
Scientists expressed serious concern about the increasing frequency of fires caused by climate change in the Siberian Arctic.
