According to the public prosecutor of Le Havre, Bruno Dieudonné, questioned by
Ouest-France
, the facts took place shortly before 10 p.m.
While on patrol, two gendarmes from this town of 4,000 inhabitants saw flames rising from a motorhome area.
“
They went to the bottom of this area where a fire was lit.
And then a man came out of nowhere and told them to 'get the hell out of here'
," the prosecutor said.

Armed with a brushcutter, the individual begins to hit the police vehicle, breaking its windows.
He then tries to tackle the driver.
Faced with the aggressiveness of this man, who would be unknown to the police, the two gendarmes get out of the vehicle.
One of them takes out his weapon, and "
makes the usual summons
", according to the prosecutor.
In vain.
The man in question is still trying to reach the police.
The policeman then uses his weapon.
“Fairly marginal life”
The man died on the spot, despite the intervention of the emergency services.
Still according to Bruno Dieudonné, the individual “
had been leading a fairly marginal life for some time
”.
A few moments before the facts, he “
had already attacked a motorhome driver
” by hitting him “
in the back
”.
The victim, who was able to flee, “
had just informed the emergency services
”.
The gendarmes on patrol had not yet received the information.
