A 30-year-old man who took part in the "Here We Live" project, in which students live in the homes of senior citizens, stole about 100,000 shekels from a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor.
An indictment charges him with theft and fraud under aggravated circumstances. According to the indictment, a few years ago the student lived with the elderly woman.
The project is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Equality, in cooperation with the National Union of Students, whose goal is to reduce the loneliness of the elderly.
For about three years the young man lived with the Holocaust survivor, but even after that he maintained a close relationship with her.

At that time, the elderly woman had two credit cards, and used to keep sums of money in cash for her current needs.

During those years, the defendant used his stay in the apartment to steal money.
He took the credit card details of the elderly woman without her consent, and used them to make hundreds of transactions in businesses, including supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, the municipality, a university, internet and cellular providers, gyms, clothing and footwear stores and websites, delicatessens, garages and even factory lucky cards the lottery
The student was not satisfied with that.
He used to withdraw large sums in cash from the woman's bank account, on more than 50 different occasions - amounts exceeding NIS 25,000.
Later he continued to steal from the drawer in the elderly woman's bedroom.
The indictment stated that the actions of the accused were discovered thanks to the vigilance shown by the complainant's son.
"The aggravating circumstances are reflected in the age of the victim - an elderly Holocaust survivor - in the essence of the relationship and its exploitation, in the time period of the acts, in the amount and sums of money actually taken", the language of the indictment.
