Cluster bombs or kidnappings: Foreign Minister Baerbock wants to denounce Russia's war crimes in The Hague.
But a breakdown slows her down.
The Hague – Kidnappings, rapes and mass killings: Russia is accused of massive war crimes in the Ukraine war.
On Monday (January 16, 2023), German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) will travel to The Hague to give a keynote speech in the orbit of the International Criminal Court.
Clear words are also expected from Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom many observers would like to summon before the tribunal.
But the appearance of the Green politician is delayed.
A defective government plane caused problems in the morning.
Ukraine war: Baerbock plans keynote speech on Russia's war crimes in The Hague
Because of the technical breakdown, Annalena Baerbock was only able to leave for The Hague with a delay.
According to the Bundeswehr flight readiness service, the delay came because the stairs at the front entrance to the A321-200 Air Force Airbus could not be removed at first.
Instead of leaving at 8:45 a.m. as planned, the German Foreign Minister and her delegation finally left for the Netherlands at around 9:30 a.m.
It is not the first time that the federal government's government airlines have thwarted the schedule.
There are always breakdowns.
Between 2016 and 2019 alone, the readiness to fly counted 14 failures.

Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine: Baerbock accuses Putin of using banned cluster munitions
Baerbock actually wants to meet representatives of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
In the afternoon, the minister is to give a keynote speech at the Hague Academy of International Law.
The speech was supposed to be about ways to hold the Russian leadership accountable for the war of aggression against Ukraine.
Baerbock has long accused Russian forces of using cluster bombs on peaceful civilians and kidnapping thousands of Ukrainian children in its war of aggression against Ukraine.
This cruel rage, which violates international law, cannot be justified by anything, the Greens politician said in advance, according to
Deutschlandfunk
.
Putin in particular is trampling on the most elementary principles of international law.
Butscha or Irpin: United Nations collects evidence – conceivable “special tribunal”?
Since the start of the Ukraine war, there have been repeated reports of massive violations of international law.
Especially in Bucha and Irpin, numerous war crimes were documented after the Russian troops withdrew.
The United Nations (UN) are in the war zone with investigators collecting evidence of the allegations, mostly made by the Ukrainian government.
According to the information, the commission is already following up more than 15,000 tips.

Before Baerbock's visit to The Hague, the German Federal Minister of Justice, Marco Buschmann (FDP), spoke out in favor of more determined legal prosecution of those responsible for the Ukraine war.
"If it's the fastest and most effective means, I think a special tribunal is conceivable," Buschmann told the dpa news agency on Sunday.
The Russian war of aggression is clearly contrary to international law.
“Whoever started this bloody war should be held accountable.
In order to achieve that, we also have to think in new ways.”
Putin before criminal court?
Minister of Justice calls for a special tribunal with international judges
Several options are conceivable for a special tribunal, said Buschmann.
Either it could be "a Ukrainian court, an international tribunal based on an international treaty with the participation of Ukraine," he suggested.
"Or there is a mixed form, a so-called hybrid court, in which a Ukrainian law creates a special court with the participation of international judges." It is important that such a special court is staffed with international judges "in order to guarantee the impartiality of the criminal proceedings".
