As the “nude” trend became the norm on the red carpet and beyond, it was only a matter of time before this trend caught on.

Take a look at the hottest style star of the moment: Dua Lipa, who chose to ring in 2023 in a dress that exposes her thong.
It's a shimmering chainmail gown straight off the runway by Ludovic de Saint Sernin SS23, cut so low backless that her white cotton thong became the star of the show.

Of course, Gen Z celebrities are well known for their easy adoption of those trends that come with a serious wow factor, but we also saw more real-life examples exposing 2000s-style thongs.
Kim Kardashian caused an internet frenzy when she released a Skims dress with a low-cut train (which sold out quickly);
Gucci relaunched Tom Ford's iconic 1997 Gucci logo thong, but this time in bikini form;
while girls' favorite boutique Koibird gave editors a silk thong with a metal 'K' on the back for Christmas.
Thongs have also been seen all over the catwalks in recent seasons.
For SS23, Tom Ford, Ludovic de Saint Sernin did their covers and south London label KNWLS championed low-rise jeans and thongs, plus outfitting Lila Moss in a sheer black dress with matching visible thong for the recent Fashion Awards.
Meanwhile, last month, Jacquemus sent model Vittoria Ceretti down the runway in a skirt so short it exposed half of her underwear.
