Students at more than ten universities and colleges across the country will protest against the government's plan to weaken the judiciary, at the expense of a lesson on the school day. Bar Ilan University directed the teaching staff to allow students to demonstrate and "avoid comments that stir up the spirits"

Thousands of students in more than ten universities and colleges across the country today (Monday) left their classes on the school day to demonstrate against the legal plan promoted by the government.

"Bibi and Sara - this is not Hungary" and "democracy in crisis", read the dozens of students at Ben Gurion University in Be'er Sheva.

Hundreds of students at Tel Aviv University chanted "We will not be silent if there is no equality before the law" and "D-M-W-K-R-T-Y-H", when in front of them a demonstration of support for the reform of the "If You Want" movement was held with the participation of dozens.

Bar Ilan University instructed the teaching staff to allow students to demonstrate at the expense of class, and to "avoid comments that confuse the spirits".

At the university, and in other institutions, a counter-demonstration of the If You Want movement is taking place at the same time.

"The legal reform is necessary to restore the balance between the three authorities. We call on the Minister of Justice not to fear threats and incitement, the people have spoken," said Adiel Cohen, coordinator of If You Want Bar Ilan.

"We the students are not ready to remain silent in the face of the dangerous coup d'état and the sell-out of the judicial system," they added.

"Democracy is not an empty slogan, but an essence that must be fought for. This is an uncompromising struggle for our future against a government that, in the name of the tyranny of the majority, threatens to trample on democracy, and then, without restraint and without brakes, harm the equality and freedom of many groups in Israeli society. We are determined to stop the madness and this is only the beginning. We will protest in our masses and call loudly - no to overcome the court. No to the politicization of the judges. No to the coup d'état."
