Two doctors accused of manslaughter in the case of Deng Guisi

The two defendants were each allowed to be released on cash bail of 50,000 yuan.

An inquest into Deng's death, originally scheduled for February, has also been postponed.


Defendants Lin Zhikun (50 years old) and Chen Xiaojian (45 years old) were each charged with one count of manslaughter. On January 1, Deng Guisi (43 years old) was illegally killed.

Prosecutor says police need time to review evidence

During the period, they must live and report their addresses, report to the police station once a week, hand over all travel documents, and are not allowed to leave Hong Kong or have direct or indirect contact with prosecution witnesses, including Deng Guisi's. After two liver transplants, his condition did not improve, and he died in August of the same year at the age of 43.

Deng's death inquest adjourned

The incident was originally scheduled for next month (February) for an inquest into the cause of death. The judiciary confirmed yesterday that the coroner has postponed the inquest at the request of the Department of Justice.

It is understood that when the police arrested Lin and Chen on the 9th of this month, they were still doctors at the United Hospital. The Hospital Authority later stated that the relevant staff had stopped and transferred from clinical work.
