"The best of America" - Ukraine wants Abrams tanks and makes a strange video for it

The pressure on the West to supply battle tanks for the Ukraine war is increasing.
Kyiv is atypically demanding Abrams tanks from the US.
Kyiv – Before the Ramstein summit on further arms deliveries to Ukraine, main battle tanks are repeatedly discussed.
"German weapons, German tanks are essential for survival," emphasized the Ukrainian ambassador Oleksii Makeiev to the

, also referring to Leopard 2 main battle tanks for defense against Russia.
But a delivery from Germany is by no means enough to turn the tide in the Ukraine war.

In the Ukraine war, Kyiv is now also demanding M1 Abrams main battle tanks from the USA – in a not entirely subtle way.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense published a commercial on Twitter on Thursday (January 12), which took viewers back to the 1990s.

"Western countries are so concerned about sending tanks to Ukraine that they are at odds over what is and isn't a 'tank,'" the ministry headlined the post.
With the video, Ukraine wants to offer a "modest proposal".
For a Ministry of Defense to shoot a promotional video for tanks weighing several tons is already atypical.
But the first sequences of the 49-second video underpin the irony of the "modest" film.
Based on a Chevrolet commercial from the 1990s, the M1 Abrams main battle tank with its 1500 horsepower is presented.
The video shows the Abrams rolling through rough terrain and firing its gun.
In addition, footage of wild horses and a boy flapping the United States flag in the wind are played.
The video is accompanied by music from Bob Seger, who repeatedly sings “Like a Rock” in the chorus – just like in the Chevrolet commercial.
"Because the best things are made in America," the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense captioned the video.

The video has now more than 2.4 million views.
The Twitter community is divided.
“Sometimes I think Ukrainians are more American than Americans.
This video was 113% American, just missing a couple of bald eagles," laughed one user.
"You don't win without help," wrote another.
"We don't owe Ukraine or its government anything," said another Twitter user.

Recently, several Western countries, including Germany and the United States, announced the delivery of armored personnel carriers for Ukraine.
Great Britain then wants to be the first country to provide the Ukrainian armed forces with main battle tanks of the "Challenger 2" type.
Poland and Finland have also expressed their support for the delivery of German-made Leopard 2 tanks.
The federal government has not yet commented on this.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz apparently wants to wait for the US decision.
The US is also reluctant to commit to Abrams tanks during the Ukraine war.

It remains to be seen whether the Ukrainian ministry's video will make the United States reconsider its supply of main battle tanks.
