The driver of a small van was on the A8 between Munich and Weyarn with plenty of alcohol on Sunday – apparently after an accident.

The police are looking for witnesses.

Weyarn

– As reported by the Holzkirchen motorway police station, a patrol crew noticed a white van on Sunday around 4:45 p.m. on the A8 towards Salzburg after the Weyarn junction, which showed very noticeable driving behavior.

Apparently he had great problems staying in lane and kept snaking between the middle lane and the hard shoulder.

The reason for this quickly became clear during the subsequent check at the Seehamer See car park: the 40-year-old driver from the Rosenheim district was under the influence of alcohol, and according to the police report, the voluntary breath alcohol test carried out showed a value above the legal maximum.

The onward journey was stopped, the police secured the vehicle key.

The 40-year-old was taken to APS Holzkirchen, where a blood sample was taken and he had to surrender his driver's license.

The fact that the man was driving under the influence of alcohol turned out to be the case when the police took a closer look at the vehicle: the police found fresh accident damage on the left side of the vehicle - apparently from a collision with a crash barrier.

According to the driver, he collided with the central barrier at around 4:30 p.m. on his way from Munich and then continued his journey without bothering to settle the accident damage.

However, the driver was unable to identify the exact scene of the accident.

He now faces not only a report for drunk driving, but also for avoiding a traffic accident, "which is why it is to be expected that he will have his driving license revoked for a long time," says the highway police.

.

In relation to the accident, the police are still looking for witnesses: who observed between about 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. how a white van collided with the central barrier on the A8 towards Salzburg or on the A99 towards Munich-South and then drove on?

Witnesses who can provide relevant information are asked to contact the motorway police station in Holzkirchen on 08024/90730 or any other police station.
