Dior has named BTS star Jimin as its global brand ambassador, a move that confirms South Korea's growing importance to the world's biggest luxury fashion houses.
Announcing the partnership via social media on Monday, Dior said the appointment "solidifies" the friendship between the singer and the French brand and "continues the bond" with menswear artistic director Kim Jones, who previously created outfits stage performances for the K-pop band.

The post was accompanied by images showing the 27-year-old star in a number of looks from the brand's Summer 2023 collection.
Jimin, whose full name is Park Ji-min, "exemplifies Dior's timeless spirit and uniqueness," the ad added.
The news comes as Dior is expanding its presence in South Korea, where an average of $325 per person a year is spent on luxury items, the highest in the world, according to Reuters, citing analysts at Morgan Stanley.

Last year, the fashion house hosted its first show there, presenting its Fall 2022 collection to a star-studded audience in the capital, Seoul.
Another famous Dior ambassador, Blackpink singer Jisoo, was present at the event, which also featured stars including figure skater Kim Yuna and Korean-American rapper Jay Park.

In a statement ahead of the May event, Christian Dior Couture President and CEO Pietro Beccari said the brand is "forging powerful new ties" with the country.

Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Givenchy, Loewe and Alexander McQueen have signed agreements with K-pop singers or South Korean actors in recent years.
Jimin and Jisoo are part of Dior's growing list of Korean ambassadors that also includes Sehun of pop group EXO and actor and model Nam Joo-Hyuk, who is one of the faces of Dior Beauty Korea.
Dior, whose parent company LVMH announced last week that billionaire owner Bernard Arnault's daughter Delphine will take over as the brand's president and CEO, currently has more than two dozen boutiques in South Korea, including seven in the exclusive Gangnam district of Seoul.
Its flagship store opened in the capital in 2015.

The brand's next menswear show will take place this Friday during Paris Fashion Week.
BTS, the first K-pop group to be nominated for a Grammy Award, has become a global sensation since its debut in 2013. The band previously announced a partnership with LVMH-owned Louis Vuitton, though the deal is now in the works. pause since some of its seven members are dedicated to their solo projects.
The oldest member, Jin, joined South Korea's mandatory military service in December, and the band is not expected to reunite until 2025.
