A 39-year-old man was found dead in a van parked on a vacant lot in the town of Étoile-sur-Rhône (Drôme) on Sunday January 15 by the gendarmes of the Carpentras company (Vaucluse), learned
Le Figaro
from the Avignon public prosecutor's office, confirming information from the
Dauphiné
.
The body of the individual, born in 1984, had numerous bullet holes.
Worried about not receiving any signs of life from him since January 11, his relatives had alerted the police two days later, prompting the start of the search.
These investigations were effective, since they allowed the very rapid arrest of a suspect.
According to the Avignon prosecutor's office, which took up the case, the individual, aged around forty, was seen by witnesses circulating in the city of Portes-lès-Valence.
This is where he was arrested on the morning of Sunday January 15 as he was walking in a street in the town around 6 a.m.
"Many Wounds"
In the aftermath, a probably abandoned van was discovered by the gendarmes.
The vehicle was parked on a vacant lot in Étoile-sur-Rhône, about 5 kilometers from Portes-lès-Valence.
Le Dauphiné
reported that the victim was known to the police, information that the Avignon prosecutor's office could not confirm to
Le Figaro
because of the secrecy of the investigation.
The alleged murderer, meanwhile, would not be unfavorably known to the police.
He is, like his victim, from the town of Mazan (Vaucluse).
A relative of the missing person told the police that the two men were living with a roommate, as indicated by
Actu17
.
If the motive for this crime is currently unknown, the Avignon prosecutor told
Le Figaro
that the suspect, placed in police custody, was transferred to the prosecution.
He should be brought before a magistrate for his probable indictment.
The autopsy of the victim's body, performed earlier this week, confirmed the presence of "
numerous wounds
" caused by the bullets of a firearm.
