Following the publication in "Israel Hayom" about the huge shortage of teachers in the studios of the Ministry of Education: funding of vouchers for learning Hebrew was approved • Minister of Immigration and Absorption Ofir Sofer: "Very happy that a quick solution to the problem was reached"

An immediate response to the plight and shortage of Hebrew teachers in the studios of the Ministry of Education:

Minister of Immigration and Absorption, Ofir Sofer, will budget 20 million shekels in vouchers for courses in Hebrew for new immigrants in private studios, Israel Hayom learned.

The current answer was given following the severe distress in the studios of the Ministry of Education.

Yesterday we published that from the data of a report by the Knesset's Research and Information Center, which was submitted to the Education, Culture and Sports Committee, 88 teachers are missing in the Ministry of Education's studios for learning Hebrew. As a result, more than 3,600 new immigrants are waiting, as of the beginning of the year, for a place in the studios. The waiting time is estimated at about six months.

Now, we have found an immediate solution for study vouchers for Hebrew courses in the private studios.

The NIS 20 million addition that will be allocated to provide a solution to the hardship is a follow-up to the government's decision from October to budget NIS 90 million for the issue of immigration and absorption, against the background of the widespread wave of immigration from Russia and Ukraine.

In 2022, almost 75,000 new immigrants arrived in Israel and similar numbers are expected this year as well.

24,000 new immigrants studied in 2022 in Hebrew studios of the Ministry of Education and about 6,000 immigrants studied in private studios.

need a solution

At the end of yesterday's discussion in the Education, Culture and Sports Committee, on the subject of the plight in the studios and the plight of the teachers, who earn a low average salary of about NIS 5,000, the chairman of the committee, MK Yosef Taib, ordered the ministers in charge of the issue to find within a month a solution to the plight of the teachers teaching Hebrew in the studios.

He also ordered to include them in the new salary agreement signed by the teachers union with the state.

The Minister of Immigration and Absorption, Ofir Sofer, told "Israel Hayom": "I am very happy that we will find a budgetary solution to finance the vouchers for thousands of new immigrants who immigrated to Israel this year from different countries. The issue of the crisis in the studios met me when I took office, and it is good that we achieved a quick solution. These vouchers will help thousands The immigrants will learn Hebrew and it will be easier for them to absorb and integrate into the employment market in Israel."
