From January 16 to 23, Nantes residents are invited to take part in an original vote.
Its objective: to designate the name of the future school group which will open its doors at the start of the school year in September 2023 on the ZAC of Doulon-Gohards located in the north-west of Nantes.
For this, the inhabitants must choose between three names.
These were selected beforehand, last December, by students from two Nantes schools (Julien-Gracq and Maurice-Macé).
They are Jeanne Barret, Anita Conti or Claire Bretécher.

"It's about honoring the trajectory of remarkable women, in line with the City's commitment, since 2016, to feminize the names of streets and facilities and thus make women more visible in the public space. “

She recalls that such an approach was already carried out last year for the Mellinet and Champs-de-Manoeuvre schools, which are now respectively named Alice Guy and Germaine Tillion.
Who are the personalities to decide?
The 200 pupils of the Maurice-Macé and Julien-Gracq schools were offered six names of personalities to decide between at the end of last year.
They chose three:
Jeanne Barret
(1740-1807) was a French explorer and botanist.
She is known for having been the first woman to circumnavigate the world with the explorer Bougainville's expedition on the Boudeuse and the Star between 1766 and 1769. For this, she had disguised herself as a man.
The reason ?
At the time, the presence of women on board was prohibited.
Anita Conti
(1899-1997) was the first French female oceanographer.
She is considered a
“pioneer of ecology”
since her scientific activity has contributed to the rationalization of offshore fishing.
Claire Bretécher
(1940-2020), born in Nantes, is a designer, screenwriter, described as a "
pioneer in the world of comics
".
Between 1988 and 2009, she produced nine albums of the
Agrippina
series , a veritable caricature of the Parisian bourgeoisie by presenting the futile concerns of a spoiled teenager.

The ballot, open from January 16 to 23, is accessible in several ways:
via the social networks of the City of Nantes (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter);
via the metropole.nantes.fr site, where a specific form is put online;
via ballot boxes placed for this purpose in the Julien-Gracq and Maurice-Macé schools in Nantes.
What do you know about the future school in the Doulon-Gohards district?
This school, which will open at the start of the school year in September 2023, will welcome families from the neighborhood and future families who will settle there.
It covers an area of 4300m2 and can accommodate up to six kindergarten classes and ten elementary classes.
It will be equipped with an inclusion system for children with disabilities and a leisure center for children aged 3 to 11 years.
